The British government stated that the United Kingdom, France, Germany and other European countries will invest more than US$50 billion in the next 10 years to develop long-range precision strike weapons to enhance NATO's defense capabilities. The British government said in a statement that the weapons, which will be developed without the involvement of Washington, will have the ability to accurately strike targets at least 300 kilometers (186 miles) away and in some cases have a range of more than 2,000 kilometers.
