Walmart confirmed the price cuts in a press release on Monday; however, the press release did not mention Trump or his administration. The company's shares fell slightly in after-hours trading on Monday Eastern Time. Walmart Inc. announced in a press release that it will roll out thousands of price cuts at stores nationwide and at Sam’s Club stores as part of its annual summer promotions. The company said consumers will enjoy lower prices on groceries, home essentials, outdoor items, toys and apparel through a "cash back offer" program and promotions at Sam's Club stores. Among the key discounted items, Walmart said that the price per pound of ground beef with 73% lean content will drop from $6.74 to $5.94, a decrease of about 12%, while fresh sweet corn, cherries, soft drinks, snacks and ice cream will also enjoy discounts. Sam's Club said it has reduced prices on more than 250 items, including chicken wings, hot dogs, ground beef and pork ribs, and is offering competitive fuel prices. Julie Barber, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of Walmart U.S., said the company will increase investment in pricing this summer to help customers save money on frequently purchased items, including groceries, beverages, barbecue supplies, pool equipment, toys and seasonal clothing.
