Space XAI launches new Grok 4.5 model to focus on legal, financial and programming tasks
SpaceXAI has released a new artificial intelligence model jointly developed with AI programming startup Cursor, aiming to improve its capabilities in professional fields such as finance, law and programming. This software, called Grok4.5, is the first AI model jointly trained by the two companies and is designed to help Musk's companies narrow the gap in the AI competition with competitors such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
SpaceXAI has released a new artificial intelligence model jointly developed with AI programming startup Cursor, aiming to improve its capabilities in professional fields such as finance, law and programming. This software, called Grok 4.5, is the first AI model jointly trained by the two companies and is designed to help Musk's companies narrow the gap in the AI competition with competitors such as Anthropic and OpenAI. It is worth mentioning that the product launch comes just weeks after SpaceX officially agreed to acquire Cursor, which was valued at $60 billion in the deal. According to a blog post published by the two companies on Wednesday (July 8), Grok 4.5 is designed to handle "complex and long-duration tasks," including software engineering work - one of the areas currently focused on by top AI developers. However, compared with the models previously launched by Cursor, Grok 4.5 has further expanded its application scope and can be used in more professional scenarios such as legal services and financial services. Additionally, the model has enhanced cybersecurity capabilities. The partnership with Cursor is part of Musk's overall strategy to push the company to catch up with AI competitors and attract more enterprise customers. Musk said earlier this year that his AI business, known as xAI before merging with SpaceX, had fallen behind rivals in its code generation capabilities and had made massive personnel changes to rebuild related teams. The AI department, now renamed SpaceXAI, launched its first AI programming agent (coding agent) in May to compete with Anthropic's related products. On the eve of its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), SpaceX secured the rights to acquire Cursor. Cursor is one of the fastest-growing AI startups in history and a core player in the so-called “Vibe Coding” wave. Since then, the two companies have jointly developed new AI models by sharing data and computing resources. It has been previously reported that Musk's companies have also been trying to strengthen the application of AI in the financial field to win over Wall Street customers and further expand revenue sources. The release of Grok 4.5 comes at a time when the U.S. government is stepping up scrutiny of new generation AI models, with particular attention to their cybersecurity capabilities. The Trump administration briefly restricted foreign users’ access to Anthropic’s most powerful models and required OpenAI to release its latest products in phases. Cursor said in a blog post that the company has taken steps to "identify and stop malicious actors." The company noted that its goal is to limit those workflows that have the greatest potential to cause harm while supporting legitimate cybersecurity efforts — including finding and fixing system vulnerabilities.
