Samsung Electronics is reportedly preparing to produce Tesla AI 5 chips
Samsung Electronics has begun preparations for production, industry sources said on Monday The next generation artificial intelligence chip AI5. Previously, a Samsung executive posted on a social platform that the Tesla AI5 chip has completed tape-out, which marks that all the final design work of the chip has been completed before mass production. Tape-out is the last process of chip design. The fabless chip design company will deliver the complete chip design plan to the wafer foundry, which will mass-produce it. AI5 is Tesla’s self-developed custom chip that will provide computing power support for the company’s fully autonomous driving (FSD) system, Optimus Prime humanoid robot, and artificial intelligence data center. Posts from Samsung executives show that the AI5 chip will be produced at its factory in Tyler, Texas, using Samsung's 2-nanometer process, and is expected to be integrated into Tesla's next-generation products in the near future. This news exposure is the first time that the detailed production plan of Samsung’s OEM Tesla AI5 chip has been disclosed to the public. The Taylor wafer fab is expected to start trial production later this year and launch large-scale mass production in 2027 for core customers such as Tesla.
