Nikkei falls 1.4%, tracking Wall Street losses
Japanese stocks were lower in early trade, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street. The Nikkei fell 1.4% to 66,287.24 points. Ray Attrill, head of FX strategy at National Australia Bank, said in comments that developments such as "increased two-way military action by Iran and the United States on Sunday and Monday" have given "risk assets a very bad start to the week." Among the worst-performing components of Japan's benchmark index, Yaskawa Electric fell 8.8%, Fujikura fell 6.4% and Kokusai Electric fell 6.4%.
