Buffett stops donating $6 billion worth of Berkshire stock to Gates' charities
Warren Buffett announced on Tuesday that he would no longer make annual stock donations to the Gates Foundation, with the Berkshire Hathaway chairman donating nearly $6 billion worth of stock to four family charities. Buffett, who will turn 96 in August this year, also confirmed that all of his remaining Berkshire shares will be donated to these four family foundations within eight years. He said in a statement: "Life is impermanent and events are unpredictable, but no matter what, the remaining shares I hold will be donated to these four foundations before December 31, 2034." Buffett has previously donated more than 40 billion US dollars to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and also completed a large donation last year. But he sent a signal as early as 2024 that all remaining wealth after his death will be handed over to the family's foundation.
