Rubio discusses with Lebanese President the implementation of the US-Lebanon-Israel Framework Agreement
The U.S. State Department said on the 19th that U.S. Secretary of State Rubio met with visiting Lebanese President Aoun that day to discuss the implementation of the trilateral framework agreement between the United States, Lebanon and Israel. The U.S. State Department issued a statement saying that the two sides discussed matters such as disarming Hezbollah in Lebanon, destroying its "terrorist infrastructure," and achieving peace in Lebanon. During the talks, Rubio reiterated U.S. support for the implementation of the tripartite framework agreement.

According to Middle East media reports, U.S. President Trump is scheduled to meet with Aoun at the White House on the 21st. This will be Aoun’s first formal meeting with a U.S. president since he took office as Lebanese president in January 2025, and it will also be the first time a Lebanese head of state has visited the White House since 2009. On June 26, Lebanon and Israel reached a framework agreement under the mediation of the United States. According to the agreement, the Israeli army will gradually withdraw from parts of southern Lebanon, and the Lebanese army will take over the relevant areas and promote the disarmament of local armed organizations, creating conditions for the eventual realization of a ceasefire and long-term peace. However, according to Lebanese media reports, Hezbollah refused to negotiate directly with the Israeli army and stated that it would resist any attempt to implement the framework agreement and would not give up its arms. After the framework agreement was reached, Israel still launched military strikes on targets in Lebanon many times. On July 14, Lebanon and Israel held a new round of talks in Rome, the Italian capital, to discuss issues such as implementing the framework agreement and promoting the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon. According to reports, the two sides have made progress on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the first two "pilot areas" in southern Lebanon, as well as the subsequent deployment mechanism of the Lebanese army.
