Bezos invests in Cusp AI, a startup teaming up with Nvidia to develop new materials for chip manufacturing
Jeff Bezos’ investment arm, Bezos Expedition Fund, has invested in CuspAI, a British technology startup that develops new materials based on artificial intelligence. CuspAI has simultaneously reached new cooperation with companies such as NVIDIA to search for new key materials in the chip industry and other fields. The company belongs to the current wave of new technological innovation: companies are using AI technology to solve various technical problems in the physical industrial field. Jeff Bezos invested in British company CuspAI. The company officially announced on Monday that it is cooperating with NVIDIA and a number of industry leaders to achieve material technology breakthroughs in the fields of semiconductors, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing. This round of financing totals US$450 million, and CuspAI’s post-investment valuation reaches US$2.6 billion. This round was led by Kleiner Perkins and NEA Investments, with Bezos’ Bezos Expedition Fund participating in a large amount. New investors also include Gladbrook Capital, Luke Capital, and Chaowei’s industrial funds Ventures, and the UK National Sovereign AI Venture Fund. CuspAI uses artificial intelligence to simulate the physical and chemical properties of various new materials, and selects candidate samples with practical value from a massive combination of materials, significantly reducing the workload of actual laboratory testing. Josh Cohen, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, said in a statement: The leap-forward progress of most technologies relies on new materials; at this stage, whether it is low-cost carbon capture technology, semiconductor process upgrades, or water purification process optimization, development bottlenecks are all stuck in new materials that have not been discovered by humans, and the material intelligent retrieval system created by CuspAI can break this dilemma. Building a future where artificial intelligence empowers real industries CuspAI is a representative of a large number of AI companies that have landed in the real industry. Prometheus, a company founded by Bezos himself in 2025, has a financing scale of US$12 billion and a valuation of US$41 billion. Its main business is to use AI to empower invention creation and physical engineering research and development. CuspAI, headquartered in the United Kingdom, will soon open a new office in Singapore and expand its R&D teams in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and the United States. The company has launched a collaborative system called AI Materials Foundry: relying on its own AI platform, it integrates data resources, physical laboratories, computing resources and top scientific research talents to build an integrated materials research and development network. NVIDIA is one of the 45 partner institutions that provide computing infrastructure, and the Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (FAIR) under Yuan Technology has also joined the cooperation plan. CuspAI CEO and co-founder Chad Edwards said: "As artificial intelligence reshapes the physical industry, new materials will open up new development boundaries for semiconductors, energy, and high-end manufacturing. The AI Materials Workshop combines NVIDIA's accelerated computing base with the world's top chemistry and materials expertise, and will provide core power for the research and development of the next generation of new materials."
