Intel, a well-known American semiconductor company, announced on Tuesday that it has reached a strategic cooperation with network security company Fortinet Information to jointly develop Fortinet’s next-generation security chip SP6.

Public information shows that this cooperation is also the first time that Intel’s foundry business has confirmed signing contracts with external corporate customers since Chen Liwu, the current head of Intel, took office in March last year. According to relevant sources at Intel, the SP6 chip will be manufactured using the Intel 4 process.

Compared with Intel's most advanced 18A (1.8 nanometer) process, "Intel 4" is essentially a 7-nanometer process, which is already a previous generation technology and is mainly used for ASIC and other chips that are cost-sensitive and have less extreme performance requirements.
