Tesla warns of challenges in scaling Optimus production
Tesla's Optimus robot may prove to be the most difficult of the company's products when it comes to scaling up production, CEO Elon Musk said on a conference call with analysts. "Everything on the robot is new," Musk said. For electric vehicles, Tesla could source specific parts such as wheels, side mirrors and windshields from existing suppliers, he said. "But with Optimus, there's no supply chain," he said, noting that the company had to make everything entirely in-house. As a result, the initial phase of scaling up Optimus manufacturing will be fairly gradual and lengthy, he said.
