Nvidia donates supercomputer to U.S. Naval Postgraduate School
Nvidia and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) said on Wednesday that the leader in artificial intelligence chips has donated a supercomputer equipped with its latest chips to an NPS-affiliated nonprofit organization. The U.S. Naval Postgraduate School is a multidisciplinary technical college of the U.S. Navy, offering master's and doctoral degrees in computer science, aerospace engineering and other fields, with a particular emphasis on their applications in warfare. Nvidia donated a system based on its state-of-the-art AI computer GB300 "Grace Blackwell" server to the NPS Foundation, a nonprofit organization associated with the school. Nvidia and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School did not disclose the size of the system but confirmed it was installed at the NPS campus in Monterey, California. Although Nvidia's Blackwell chips are planned for use in government supercomputers built by the U.S. Department of Energy, Wednesday's donation is the first time the U.S. military has direct use of Nvidia's most advanced servers. "Artificial intelligence will become the backbone of U.S. defense," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement.
