JPMorgan Chase issued a letter reiterating that Dimon and Epstein never met or had email contact
Jamie Dimon never met or had email contact with the late sex offender Epstein, he said in response to questions from lawmakers about how much the CEO knew about Epstein and his alleged illegal activities. According to a letter seen by the media, JPMorgan Chase said, "Mr. Dimon stated the truth when he testified under oath. He never met Jeffrey Epstein, never exchanged emails with him, and was not involved in any decision to make Epstein a client of the bank." U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a letter to Dimon earlier this month seeking clarification on the bank's relationship with Epstein and how much the CEO knew about it. The letter refers to publicly available information between Peter Mandelson and Epstein, in which they discussed the possibility of Dimon calling then-UK chancellor Alistair Darling. "Mr. Dimon's calls with government officials, including with Alistair Darling when he was chancellor of the exchequer, were routine for a CEO of a global financial institution," JPMorgan said in the letter. "These calls covered economic and policy issues relevant to the global banking industry. The records do not support any suggestion that these calls were inappropriate or related to Epstein." Dimon has always denied ever meeting Epstein. In a deposition, the CEO said he had never met the late sex predator and had no idea who Epstein was even before news reports emerged in 2019 of his arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.
