Nvidia signs chip packaging deal with Amkor worth $1.5 billion
NVIDIA and Amkor Technology Inc. Signed a US$1.5 billion agreement to support the latter in upgrading chip packaging facilities and expanding its semiconductor industry layout in the United States. According to a statement released Thursday, Nvidia will make an upfront payment to Amkor under the agreement to help it increase its production capacity in Arizona. After the news was announced, Amkor's shares surged about 15% after the market closed. The two companies said the collaboration will focus on developing chip packaging and testing technology for artificial intelligence applications. Packaging is a critical final step in the semiconductor manufacturing process.
