Canadian officials have officially opened a multibillion-dollar bridge connecting Michigan and Ontario. The 1.5-mile bridge will increase efficiency for industries such as automakers, but it has also become a symbol of tensions between the two allies in the Trump era. A ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Friday had been postponed after U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stepped in to renegotiate the bridge's financial terms. The Trump administration and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's government eventually reached a side agreement that would allow the bridge to open and the United States would receive a share of the profits for 15 years. The two sides originally planned to hold a joint opening ceremony.
