SK hynix’s second-quarter operating profit is expected to reach 64.1 trillion won.

An industry analysis report pointed out on Sunday that driven by the semiconductor super boom cycle spurred by artificial intelligence and supported by SK Hynix's leading position in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market, the company's operating profit in the second quarter of this year is expected to hit a record high of 64.1 trillion won (equivalent to US$43.7 billion).

Based on the forecasts of 14 local Korean securities firms, the consensus estimate is that from April to June this year, SK Hynix's sales are expected to reach 84.1 trillion won, with operating profit of 64.1 trillion won. This value will far exceed the company's historical operating profit record of 47.2 trillion won in 2025.

The company's second-quarter operating profit margin is expected to remain in the range of 75% to 77%, and the first-quarter profit margin is 75%. This market forecast is generally consistent with the second-quarter performance guidance released by Samsung Electronics earlier this month.

Samsung had previously estimated that its quarterly operating profit would reach 89.4 trillion won, which also set a single-quarter record. If SK Hynix's second-quarter financial report released on Wednesday meets market expectations, the combined operating profit of South Korea's two largest memory chip manufacturers will exceed 150 trillion won.

Analysts believe that rising memory chip prices and strong demand for high-bandwidth memory and solid-state drives required by artificial intelligence data centers are the core reasons for the company's sharp increase in performance this quarter.

Kim Dong-won, a researcher at KB Securities, said: "Order revenue from global technology companies and artificial intelligence data center operators is expected to account for 70% of SK Hynix's total revenue in the second quarter."
