“Big Short” Michael Burry Increases Short Bet on Micron and Nvidia, Maintains Short Bet on Tesla and Palantir
Legendary investor Michael Burry, famous for his role in the movie "The Big Short," is at it again, further expanding his bearish bets on the semiconductor sector while maintaining his and short positions in Palantir. Burry published an article on Substack on July 25, local time, disclosing the latest position trends. He went short further at $933.86 per share Technology, and added to its short position in Nvidia at $210.28. In addition, he also added a short position in the Philadelphia Semiconductor ETF at $535.83 and said that this position, combined with the put options he held, constituted a "large position" in his portfolio. Regarding Nvidia’s short-selling logic, Burry bluntly stated that the current large demand is not driven by real end customers, and the relevant financing arrangements are outside the balance sheet and have not been disclosed, and future revenue is “mostly financed through revolving arrangements.” He cited the 2026 Bank for International Settlements annual report as support. Meanwhile, Burry maintains short positions on Tesla and Palantir. He said Tesla's short position is "slowly shrinking on its own," suggesting that the drop in stock prices has naturally shrunk the nominal size of its short positions. He also added short position and continue to hold 100 put option on ETF. Data shows that some of Bury’s short bets are starting to pay off. Short positions in Tesla and Caterpillar shifted sharply in their favor during the July market correction. However, NVIDIA's stock price rose slightly after its short position, becoming an "outlier" in its short-selling portfolio.
