Utility company Center Point Energy reported solid Q 2 performance and raised capital plan to $46 billion
Utility company CenterPoint Energy announced its second-quarter financial report on Tuesday, showing growth in both revenue and profit. It also announced an increase in its multi-year capital investment plan and reiterated its long-term earnings per share growth target. The financial report shows that CenterPoint Energy’s adjusted earnings per share in the second quarter were US$0.44, in line with market expectations and an increase of approximately 10% from US$0.40 in the same period last year. The company confirmed full-year adjusted earnings per share guidance of $1.75 to $1.79 and reiterated its annual EPS growth target of 8%. On the capital investment front, the company increased its 2025-2030 capital plan by $3 billion, bringing the total to $46 billion. Among them, capital expenditures in 2026 are expected to be approximately US$7.2 billion. As of June 30, the company's total capital investment in the 12 months was approximately $4.6 billion. In terms of capital structure, the company's long-term debt at the end of the quarter was approximately US$26.5 billion. The company’s power business benefited from customer growth Loads increased, while the natural gas business benefited from the recovery of infrastructure investments. The company reiterated its forecast for 2027 and long-term earnings per share growth of 8%, and believes the company remains well-positioned to achieve sustained earnings per share growth of 8% to 10% while maintaining its dividend growth target range of 7%. On the earnings call, management emphasized that it will increase customer value through targeted capital deployment and operational improvements and maintain its "lean" operating model. The company plans to submit a new rate adjustment application to the Texas Public Utilities Commission in the second quarter of 2026 to recover the new investment. In addition, the Company believes that the recent widespread market fluctuations have not had a material impact on its financing capabilities or project execution. Since 2025, the company has successfully raised approximately US$4.5 billion, and the cost of capital is basically in line with expectations. As of quarter-end, the company held approximately $1 billion in cash to provide short-term liquidity.
