Shenzhen laptop prices rise as more buyers turn to used PCs and repairs.

At multiple offline malls in Shenzhen, many brand-name laptop models have seen prices rise compared with the beginning of the year. However, after excluding government subsidies, the price increase for branded, fully assembled machines is far below the nearly 50% jump seen in some offline assembled PCs.

While the new-device market is being supported by “essential demand,” some consumers are shifting their attention to secondhand computers and repairing older machines. In Huaqiangbei, inquiries about used computers have risen noticeably since the summer vacation began.

Many office workers and students who had originally planned to buy new machines are now turning to used devices with better value for money. Many consumers are also extending the life of their old computers by upgrading components such as hard drives and memory. As a result, repair and expansion business has seen a clear increase in volume. (CCTV Finance)
