JPMorgan now expects a Fed rate hike in December, earlier than its prior call for the second half of 2027.

JPMorgan now expects the Federal Reserve to cut rates in December, earlier than the second half of 2027 it had previously projected. “In Warsh’s press conference, he again failed to clearly explain how he intends to deliver on his strongly stated commitment to fighting inflation,” Michael Feroli, JPMorgan’s chief U.S. economist, wrote in a report.

Warsh also raised questions about whether PCE would still serve as the Fed’s inflation target, and both points have cast doubt on whether the new chair can achieve the goal of lowering inflation. That, in turn, could create greater urgency among other members of the Fed committee to fulfill their responsibilities.
