Microsoft adds $450 billion in market value in a single day, setting a stock-market record.

On Thursday, the stock market set a new record, as one company added about $450 billion in market value in a single day, marking the largest one-day increase in market capitalization for any stock in history. The company’s shares surged 16% at the close, the biggest gain since October 2008, lifting its market value by roughly $450 billion.

That exceeded the previous single-day market cap record of $440 billion set by Nvidia after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs last year, according to Bloomberg data. Microsoft jumped on Thursday after the company reported that Azure cloud revenue in the fiscal fourth quarter rose 43%, the fastest pace since early 2022.

Microsoft also said its capital spending plans for 2026 remain unchanged. The data show that Microsoft’s one-day market value increase exceeded the total market capitalization of about 96% of companies in the S&P 500. Microsoft’s single-day gain also topped the total stock market capitalization of several countries.

The combined equity markets of South Africa, Turkey, Finland, and Vietnam were all smaller than Microsoft’s market value increase on Thursday.
