U.S. senators press Apple over chips from two Chinese firms.

According to a Bloomberg report on July 30, several U.S. senators said in a joint letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook that Apple should not use memory chips made by the two Chinese companies in its products, even if those products are sold only in the China market. They emphasized that CXMT and Yangtze Memory Technologies have been added to the U.S.

Defense Department’s recently updated list of “Chinese military companies.” The senators also claimed that approving and using Chinese chips in Apple products would pose a “national security risk,” and asked Apple to explicitly commit by August 21 not to purchase chips from the two companies.
