Iran Says It Closed Strait of Hormuz; U.S. Central Command Denies Claim.

On local time July 31, U.S. Central Command said the Iranian government had again claimed that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz, calling the claim false. The command said the strait remained open to commercial shipping and that Iran did not control it.

It added that thousands of vessels had passed through the international waterway over the past four months. Earlier on July 31, Iran’s Strait Management Authority issued a statement saying that the Strait of Hormuz could no longer be transited normally because of what it described as continued aggressive U.S. military actions in the relevant waters.
