KOSPI falls 22.19% in July to close at 6,595.45
South Korea’s KOSPI fell 1,881.03 points, or 22.19%, this month to close at 6,595.45. It posted its largest one-month percentage decline since October 2008, ending a three-month winning streak. The index fell 95.17 points, or 1.42%, this week. It has dropped 2,456.97 points, or 27.14%, over the past six weeks, marking its largest six-week percentage decline since the week ended March 20, 2020. The six-week slide is also the longest losing streak since Dec. 29, 2022, when the index fell for seven consecutive weeks. The KOSPI declined in eight of the past nine weeks. The index rose 1,001.89 points, or 17.91%, today, its largest single-day gain on record in both points and percentage terms. The advance ended a three-trading-day losing streak. The KOSPI remains down 27.64% from its record closing high of 9,114.55, set Monday, June 22, 2026. It is also down 27.64% from its 52-week high, reached at the same level on the same date. The index is up 111.43% from its 52-week low of 3,119.41, set Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, and up 111.43% from its level 52 weeks earlier. It is down 27.64% from its 2026 closing high of 9,114.55, set June 22, and up 53.04% from its 2026 closing low of 4,309.63, set Friday, Jan. 2. Year to date, the KOSPI has gained 2,381.28 points, or 56.51%.
