Berkshire Hathaway rises to eight-month high as three major holdings advance.

Berkshire Hathaway’s Class A and Class B shares rose this week to their highest level in eight months, according to a CNBC report published Aug. 1. Barron’s said Berkshire’s stock has still significantly lagged the S&P 500 this year, but the current rally may have further momentum.

Three of the company’s major holdings—Apple, Coca-Cola and Bank of America—have posted sizable gains this year, supporting Berkshire’s share price. Apple, Berkshire’s largest holding, now has a position valued at more than $70 billion and is up more than 13% this year.

Coca-Cola, the portfolio’s third-largest holding, represents a $35 billion position and has gained 25% this year. Bank of America, the fourth-largest holding, is up more than 12% this year. UBS analysts raised their price target for Berkshire shares, maintained a “Buy” rating and increased their earnings expectations for the company.

The market estimates that Berkshire’s stock buybacks in the second quarter may have reached as much as $11 billion. The exact figure will be disclosed when the company releases its second-quarter earnings report on Aug. 8.
