Canada’s June imports from U.S. hit record high as data-center demand surges

In June, imports of computers and computer peripherals jumped 59%, mainly because of data-center processors from the United States. Statistics Canada said higher imports of electronic and electrical equipment and parts helped drive the increase in Canada’s total imports. Of the 11 product categories, imports declined in the other nine categories besides the one cited above. Canada’s overall merchandise trade surplus widened slightly in June, as increased gold exports fully offset a decline in energy exports.
