S&P 500 sets another record close as optical communications stocks surge.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Aug. 7, with all three major indexes advancing. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.3% and gained 5.19% for the week. The S&P 500 rose 0.62% and gained 3.57% for the week, setting another record closing high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28% and gained 2.96% for the week.

Optical communications stocks rallied, led by Coherent, which rose more than 13%. Credo gained more than 8%, Lumentum rose more than 6%, Corning advanced more than 5%, and Marvell Technology gained more than 3%. Memory stocks broadly declined.

Seagate Technology fell more than 4%, while Western Digital, SanDisk, Kioxia ADR and SK hynix each fell more than 3%. Micron Technology edged lower. Large technology stocks were broadly higher. SpaceX rose more than 15%, while Nvidia and Tesla gained more than 2%. Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Meta rose modestly. Google fell nearly 1%.

Airbnb jumped more than 17%, marking its biggest one-day gain since December 2020.
