Google announces three new subsea cable systems for the Americas
Google, a unit of Alphabet, announced Tuesday that it is adding subsea cable routes in the Americas, including one connecting Panama, the Dominican Republic and Chile. Chile is seeking to establish itself as a regional digital hub. The expansion will include three new subsea cable systems: Alisios, meaning trade wind; Canoa, meaning canoe; and OlaLuz, meaning wave of light. According to a press release, Alisios will connect the Dominican Republic, Panama and Chile. Canoa will connect the Dominican Republic and Bermuda, while OlaLuz will connect the Dominican Republic and Florida.
